Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge Rises With Akçansa

Sabancı Holding and Akçansa, Turkey’s leading construction materials company, made an important investment to the future of Turkey with a special product developed under the brand of Betonsa for the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, widest bridge of the world with a width of 59 meters as well as the longest suspended bridge with a rail system with a span length of 1.408 meters.  Akçansa produced a maintenance-free special product with a durability of more than 100 years that can be used for centuries for the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge under the brand of Betonsa. 1,5 million cubic meters of ready-mixed concrete was produced for the world’s highest reinforced concrete suspended bridge constructed by using the special products created by Akçansa with its R&D capabilities.

Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is also the highest reinforced concrete suspended bridge of the world with an abutment height of more than 322 meters. For the bridge, Akçansa’s Büyükçekmece Plant produced a special cement according to the needs of the project, as well as concrete highly resistant against environmental impacts with long years of experience and R&D capabilities. 100+Beton is delivered from a single point with specially produced concrete lines and high pressure fixed concrete pumps.

We have carried out a project, an exemplary one both in the world and in Turkey, with the product designed specially by Betonsa for this important project and produced in ready-mixed concrete facilities, as well as with the operations performed. I would like to celebrate everyone involved in this project, and I wish this bridge would be beneficial for our country.”

Akçansa General Manager Umut Zenar stated that they worked with a team of 150 people and produced concrete according to the needs for the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, and said, “At five ready-mixed concrete facilities designed specially for the project, temperature of the fresh concrete was maintained with the help of ice and heating units, regardless from the seasonal conditions. This operation of our has taken its place among the exemplary practices in the world. We believe the great experience we have gained in this project, where we raced against time under the challenging conditions of the Istanbul Strait, has expanded horizons for the construction industry in constructing tall buildings both in our country and in the world. On the other hand, Betonsa Garipçe Ready-Mixed Concrete Facility has received Grand Occupational Health and Safety Award by being elected among 625 worldwide facilities of the HeidelbergCement Group with its “zero work accident” success achieved through OHS centric working systems and special applications during the operation.
