The company has entered into a collaboration with Akçansa, a key player in the cement industry, to undertake the sale of approximately 2 million tons of fly ash.

ODAŞ, operating in the energy, mining, and tourism sectors, has signed an agreement with Akçansa, a key player in the cement industry, to conduct the sale of fly ash. The agreement covers the sale of fly ash, a by-product generated at ODAŞ’s Çan-2 Thermal Power Plant, to be used in cement production by Akçansa. The signing ceremony brought together Ahmet Can, Chair of ODAŞ’s Electricity Production Group and Vice Chair of Suda Strategic Metal Dış Ticaret A.Ş., and Vecih Yılmaz, CEO of Akçansa. 

This collaboration, which involves the sale of approximately 2 million tons of fly ash, aims to contribute to the enhancement of sustainability standards in both the energy and cement industries. With this partnership, ODAŞ takes another step toward minimizing environmental impact and promoting more efficient resource use.

At the signing ceremony, Ahmet Can stated: “We convert the fly ash generated at the Çan-2 Thermal Power Plant into a product that contributes positively to the circular economy. With our policy of using resources as efficiently as possible in line with our sustainable growth goals, we contribute not only to our company but also to the national economy. This collaboration is crucial in fostering greater awareness and encouraging the integration of recycled waste into the economy within our sector.”

Can highlighted that the 340 MWm Çan-2 Thermal Power Plant, which holds an Environmental Permit and License Certificate, is among the few privately owned plants in Türkiye to have earned such a certification. He added: “Our plant stands out among conventional plants with its cutting-edge flue gas treatment system operating at 99.3% efficiency without a bypass function. Additionally, we are among the first coal plants to receive a zero-waste certificate. Our waste management policy contributes to reducing pressure on natural resources and establishes a sustainable supply chain to protect these resources for future generations.”

Can also highlighted that ODAŞ exports fly ash abroad, stating: “Since 2020, we have exported more than 1.3 million tons of fly ash and synthetic gypsum (FGD Gypsum) to the United States, Canada, and European countries.”
