Akçansa is the First Turkish Cement Company to Sign the CEO Water Mandate Initiative

Taking a significant step in the fight against drought, one of the most devastating effects of climate change, Akçansa has become the first Turkish cement company to sign the CEO Water Mandate, a United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) initiative.

Akçansa, operating with the principle of effective water management, has set a milestone in the sector by signing the CEO Water Mandate,an international initiative addressing water efficiency and drought prevention.

Companies that join the CEO Water Mandate contribute to a more water-secure future by reporting their water management strategies and performance. The initiative also provides a platform for experience sharing, supporting efforts to identify and mitigate water risks, address emerging water-related issues, and contribute to water security and sustainable development goals.

Water Management is at the Core of our Sustainability Strategy”

Akçansa CEO Vecih Yılmaz emphasized the importance of effective water management in building a more sustainable future, expressing satisfaction at joining such a valuable initiative: “We recognize the importance of water for the planet and our future. We are committed to the efficient use of water resources and increasing recovery rates with a circular economy perspective. In 2023, we reused 92% of the water consumed in our cement production activities through closed-loop systems. We also prepared Water Management Master Plans addressing rainwater and surface water collection. Water management, a key component of our climate change adaptation plans, lies at the heart of our sustainability strategy. With our voluntary commitment to sustainability, we will continue working toward achieving a more habitable future.”
