The eighth Concrete Ideas Project Competition is concluded

The award ceremony for the Concrete Ideas Project Competition, held by Turkey's leader construction materials company Akçansa with the motto "Go For It Idea" (Yürü Fikir Yürü) this year, was held at the Sabancı Center on May 24.

A record participation was made with the application of 1.340 students from 117 universities to the eighth Concrete Ideas Project Competition. In the competition, Pamukkale University and Istanbul Bilgi University students ranked first, while Yeditepe University and Istanbul Technical University students ranked second, and Boğaziçi University students ranked third.

Eighth Concrete Ideas Project Competition organized by Turkey's leader construction materials company Akçansa took place this year with the participation of 1.340 people from 117 universities all around Turkey. Breaking its own record this year, award ceremony of the Concrete Ideas was held at Sabancı Center on Wednesday May 24.

Sabancı Holding CEO Mehmet Göçmen, Sabancı Holding Cement Group Chairman Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu, Akçansa General Manager Şahap Sarıer as well as Concrete Ideas Project Competition jury members, Akçansa employees, business partners, and finalist students have attended to the ceremony.

Projects submitted to the contest are evaluated by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Taşdemir from the Istanbul Technical University, Executive Development Unit Director Dr. T. Cüneyt Evirgen from the Sabancı University, Brand Consultant Temel Aksoy, and Marketing Turkey Chied Editor Günseli Özen. As a result of jury's evaluation, Karbonmonoksit Karbonla Non-Toksik Grubu from Pamukkale University and Istanbul Bilgi University ranked first in the 8th Concrete Ideas Competition. Grup SABU from Yeditepe University and Istanbul Technical University ranked second, while Grup Cementie from Boğaziçi University ranked third. Following the evaluations of the jury, Grup Gravitton from Istanbul Technical University and Istanbul Bilim University and Grup Yankı Beton from Anadolu University and Istanbul Arel University received Jury Special Award.

The youth reinterpreted the cement and concrete

Karbonmonoksit Karbonla Non-Toksik Grubu ranking first in the competition reinterprets the concrete for being used at tunnels, parking garages and hospitals with their project ensuring absorption of gases, which might be detrimental for the human health, with the concrete produced for the areas that do not have natural ventilation, but can only be ventilated through mechanical methods by using active carbon.

The members of the winning group received MacBook Air, while the members of second ranking group received Apple Watch, and the members of third ranking group received Drone.

Göçmen: “We are ready for meeting the expectations of new generation”

In his speech during the award ceremony, Sabancı Holding CEO Mehmet Göçmen said, "Today, innovation, creativity and making invention capacities are determinant in the importance ranking of countries. In order to achieve these, we have to take advantage of the minds, creativity and entrepreneur spirits of young people. We are a company mainly consisted of engineers. We are on top of the companies which qualified engineers in Turkey want to work with most. And now, we are adding another one to our strengths. We are ready for meeting the expectations of new generation.”

Hacıkamiloğlu: “Our youth will continue contributing to the sector”

Sabancı Holding Cement Group Chairman Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu mentioned about the importance of university-industry cooperation and said, "University-industry cooperation is a win-win opportunity for both parties. It is important for both using the limited resources with maximum efficiency, and supporting the young population in receiving not only theoretical, but also practical education. This cooperation has an important contribution for accelerating the economic development in several countries. Concrete Ideas Project is a competition that gathers university and industry around common expectations. Our youth will continue contributing to the sector with this competition."

Sarıer: “We have broken a new record all together”

Stating that Akçansa attaches a great importance to the young talents, Akçansa General Manager Şahap Sarıer said, "1.340 applications from 117 universities were received for our competition with "Go For It Idea" theme this year. We have broken a new record all together. This interest shows us that there are young people who want their ideas to be valued, are aware of the problems in their surroundings, worry about the future, and wish for correcting this. We are always standing by the young people who work for future."

Akçansa supported TOÇEV by donating 1-year educational costs of 1 child for each of the jury members of the Concrete Ideas Project Competition. Akçansa General Manager Şahap Sarıer presented TOÇEV certificates to the jury members in memory of the day.
