Record level of participation in ‘Concrete Ideas’

The award ceremony of the Concrete Ideas Project Contest that is organized for the sixth time this year by Akçansa – the leader construction materials company of Turkey – is performed at Sabancı Center.

While 316 students in total from more than 44 universities participated in the contest organized under the theme ‘Let the Change Start with Your Idea’, the Group Buy Beton ranked as the winner. Whilst Group Alfa Kimlik ranked as the second, Group Betonarge ranked as the third.

Being organized for the sixth time this year by Akçansa – the leader construction materials company of Turkey – for the purpose of encouraging the university students to transform their cities through their sustainable ideas, the Concrete Ideas Project Contest results were announced during the award ceremony held on the 12th of May, Tuesday at Sabancı Center.

In addition to Sabancı Holding Cement Group Head and Akçansa Board Chairman Mr. Hakan Gürdal, Akçansa General Manager Mr. Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu and Akçansa Assistant General Manager for Human Resources Mr. Hakan Timur, the Betonik Fikirler Project Content jury members as well as students of the finale attended to the ceremony.

The Energetic Concrete (Enerjik Beton) named project, which was the winner of the previous year’s contest, introduced to the guests during the Betonik Fikirler Project Contest Award Ceremony.
Betonik Fikirler broken a record in 2015 by means of the participation of 316 students from more than 44 universities

To the contest that is again organized as open to the participation of all university students in Turkey this year, 316 students of 41 different faculties from more than 44 universities applied. Racing in groups, the students developed projects to transform their cities through their sustainable ideas pursuant to the main theme of this year. The projects being presented to the contest have been assessed by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Taşdemir from Istanbul Technical University, Sabancı University Executive Development Unit Director Dr. T. Cüneyt Evirgen, Brand Consultant Temel Aksoy and Marketing Turkey Chief Editor Günseli Özen Ocakoğlu.

Group Buy Beton, the winner of Concrete Ideas, will do internship at Akçansa

As a result of the assessment of the jury, the Group Buy Beton, formed of the students of Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul University and Istanbul Technical University, announced as the winner of the 6th Concrete Ideas Contest.

While Group Alfa from Erciyes University ranked as second, the Group Betonarge formed of the students of Istanbul Technical University completed the contest as third.

Each member of the Group Buy Beton received iPad and also gained the chance to have internship at Akçansa – the leader construction materials company of Turkey. Furthermore, they got the chance to have a technical visit to Heidelberg Cement Germany plants. The 2nd and 3rd groups are also awarded with iPad mini.

Mr. Gürdal: “Youth undertakes a great role today where the cognizance dominates”

During his speech in the award ceremony, Sabancı Holding Cement Group Head and Akçansa Board Chairman Mr. Hakan Gürdal said that the youth undertakes a great role in the new regime where the cognizance dominates. Then Mr. Gürdal added, “Today, the dominance of the technology and the developed production ability came into prominence again. While the positive improvements to be provided in education determine the information sharing abilities and strategies of the universities, they also started to be an important role in the expansion of the environmental awareness for a sustainable future. Exactly at this point, we consider the young talents to whom we will entrust our future importantly and support their ideas and creativity. Akçansa shall continue to provide contribution in our youth and sector in each and every year through the Concrete Ideas Project Contest that is the best model of this.”

And Akçansa General Manager Mr. Mehmet Hacıkamiloğlu said, “The Concrete Ideas Project Contest is organized with a snowballing interest in every year. This year, 316 students from more than 44 universities participated in our contest. This interest shows us that the youth we define as ‘Y’ generation is formed of the individuals who want their ideas to be taken into consideration, recognize the deficiencies and delays immediately in the occasions, feel anxiety about the future of the world and have the willing to correct these. Therefore, we, as Akçansa, see them as the leaders of the future, the talents of the future and the future members of Akçansa and wishing them to stand by us. The Concrete Ideas Project Contest both enables the youth to have their words heard, and also enables us to find the young and talented individuals who we search for.”

Energetic Concrete ‘generating power in every step’

Ranked as the first in the 5th Concrete Ideas Project Contest, Smartcem named project took its place during the award ceremony of this year. Also referred as “Energetic Concrete’, the project generates power in every step taken.100 percent energy is saved through the transformation of the pressure into electric power.

Integrating the concrete into the power generation process, the Smartcem project focuses on revealing the electric power when the piezoelectric material merges with pressure. So the steps taken during the day are converted into electric power and then used in lighting.
