Akçansa increased its EBITDA by 20 percent to TRY 90 million with its outstanding export performance to four continents in the second quarter
Akçansa announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2020. Accordingly, the company increased its EBITDA to TRY 90 million with exports to four continents in the second quarter of 2020. Net profit for the period of the company during the same period is TRY 33.5 million.
Akçansa, a joint venture of Sabancı Holding and Heidelberg Cement and Turkey's leading construction materials company, has announced the financial results for the second quarter of 2020. The company generated sales revenues of TRY 840 million in the first half of the year.
In the second quarter hit by the pandemic, EBITDA rose by 20 percent to TRY 90 million from TRY 75 million year-on-year with the addition of Akçansa’s outstanding export performance to four continents and its strict fiscal discipline policy. EBITDA margin increased to 19.8 percent from 15.4 percent year-on-year.
Net profit of the company increased to TRY 33.5 million from TRY 5.9 million year-on-year.

In his evaluation regarding the financial results, Akçansa General Manager Umut Zenar said, “Thanks to our strength in exports and effective port management, we had exports from three plants and four ports to four continents in the pandemic period, and in June, we achieved the highest monthly export volume in the Turkish cement industry, and thus had another significant achievement. The “Responsible Resource Use Certification" obtained by our Çanakkale Plant, which played a significant role in our exports, has positively increased the perception of our customers abroad related to our company. In addition to this, as a result of our strict fiscal discipline policy, we managed to reduce our overall management expenses by 11 percent and sales and marketing expenses by 43 percent, while we increased our EBITDA margin by 19.8 percent. We would like to thank all of our team members who have worked with such a great devotion to continue production without interruption during this time when the world is going through a challenging test.”
General Manager Zenar said, “By the end of 2020, we will continue to create added value for our industry and country with the goal of ‘exporting four million tons from four ports to four continents’."
Efficiency and sustainability for low-carbon future is in the forefront
Zenar emphasized that combating climate change is one of Akçansa's sustainability priorities and said, “We are pursuing a solution-oriented strategy for climate change. Accordingly, we implement both environmentally and economically effective solutions such as alternative fuel and raw material use, as well as impact-reducing practices such as energy efficiency and emission reduction. We have managed to increase the use of alternative fuel in our plants to 20 percent, which is well above the industry average of 7 percent, and we will continue to invest in this area in the coming period.”
Akçansa received the first Environmental Product Statement in ready-mix concrete
Umut Zenar stated that Akçansa offers low CO2 emissions and environmentally resistant products to the market as a result of its long-term R&D efforts, and added that they are the first company in Turkey to complete the environmental product declaration process carried out by the Global Cement and Concrete Association for ready-mix concrete products with a transparent and responsible management approach.
