Youngsters will ‘shape’ the cement and ready-mixed concrete industry with their creative ideas
Focusing on sustainable growth with its tailored solutions, new markets it creates and works in alternative raw materials-fuel, Akçansa now aims to bring the industry and the dreams of youth together with “new generation” creative ideas.
Applications for “Betonic Ideas Project Competition” of Akçansa, one of the leaders of Turkish cement industry organized in order to facilitate the adaptation of university students to business life, encourage them to invoke their creativity and to add value to the field they are educated in, continue with pace.
The applications fort he competition that directs the students to find alternative areas for use of concrete and create applicable projects for these areas has ended on January 15, 2010.
Over 100 groups formed by 3-4 students applied to the competition. Universities such as Yıldız Technical University, İstanbul Technical University, Galatasaray University, Bilgi University, Karadeniz Technical University, Erciyes University, Haliç University, Kocaeli University, 9 Eylül University and Fırat University applied to the competition open to undergraduate and graduate students of Construction Engineering and Architecture Departments.
The deadline for project submission for Betonic Ideas Project Competition, where over 300 young students will compete with each other in contributing value to cement and ready-mixed concrete industry is February 1, 2010.
The group to become first will receive a 4.000 TL worth Teknosa gift certificate whereas the second group will receive 2.000 TL worth gift certificate and the 3rd group will receive a 1.000 TL worth gift certificate. First group will also obtain the right to be interns in Akçansa. Also, Akçansa will donate a tree to TEMA for every student that participates the Betonic Ideas Project Competition and associate the youngsters in its projects for a greener world.
The awards of those who qualified fort he first three in the competition will be given iwth an award ceremony that will be held in Sabancı Center on February 24th. Members of the jury including Erol Evgin with his architect identity will participate the award ceremony. Therefore, the success of young finalists will be celebrated in a festive night.

Akçansa General Manager said these abut the project competition: “We believe that the ‘Betonic Ideas Project Competition’ that we organized fort he first time to equip our students with information required by modern science and prepare them to the business life as successful engineer and architect candidates, is very important for our industry and country. Because, with this competition, we desire to create alternative areas of use for cement and concrete and bring our industry together with the designs and ideas of the future with the power ve obtain from the youth.
At this point, we always share our most creative solutions with the industry with new markets we create and our special products, such as “self-setting concrete”. We expect our young Architects and engineers to build their ideas on our experience and develop our industry and country.
In this direction, we invite the youth to show their creativity and produce ideas in environmental and social awareness using concrete and cement.”
