Ready-mixed concrete industry professionals and academists meet in Concrete Symposium

Akçansa lighted the way for ready-mixed concrete industry with Concrete Symposium… Organized by TMMOB Chamber of Construction Engineers Istanbul Branch with the contributions of leader Turkish cement and concrete producer Akçansa, Concrete Symposium brought the professionals and academists of the industry in Istanbul Technical University.

Subjects that will shed a light on the industry such as how to produce the concrete in order to provide that the buildings have a long, durable life and issues to attend in application were discussed in the Concrete Symposium held on Thursday, 14th of January.

Used in a wide range today from building construction to dams, from prefabricated buildings to subway constructions, ready-mixed concrete has become a must in construction technology. As one of the cornerstones of building, this material is in a constant change with the developing technology.
The quality of the concrete is vital to the building safety, and thus it has to be discussed and developed continuously. Leader company of Turkish cement and concrete industry, Akçansa aims to shed a light to the sector by organizing various symposiums in various citites.

Subjects such as components, design and production of concrete, resistance and concrete and cement production and standards in cold weather were discussed in the seminar held on Thursday, January 14th between 14:00 – 17:00 in Istanbul Technical University Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center with the participation of ITU Construction Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Taşdemir. Discussions on quality inspection in concrete, importance of concrete cover and service lifetime of concrete were organized. Also, special concretes and their applications according to their areas of use were shared with the participants.

Akçansa General Manager Hakan Gürdal, said the following on Concrete Symposium: “Considering that our country is located on a seismic belt, design, material selection, material inspection and showing maximum care for installation and craftsmanship from the mandatory stages for a durable building bear vital importance. Durability is as important as resistance in building design. Durability according to a certain service lifetime is important for sustainable structuring as well as resistance, economy, functionality and aesthetics. In other words, the new trend in design is based on a desired service lifetime. Therefore, this symposium on concrete focuses on design based on service lifetime as well as resistance.”

Akçansa will continue to shed a light to the future of the industry and drive the industry by organizing the next Concrete Symposium in İzmir in February.
