Akçansa, one of the leader companies in cement industry organizes the ‘Betonic Ideas Project Competition’ in order to stimulate the young minds for alternative fields of use of concrete and cement.

The applications for the competition organized for the first time this year with the slogan, “Their dreams shaped the world, what about yours?…” start on December 1^st. Akçansa invites the youth to show their creativity and produce ideas in environmental and social awareness using concrete and cement with the competition.

Akçansa, one of the leaders of Turkish cement industry organizes a project competition named “Betonic Ideas Project Competition” in order to facilitate the adaptation of university students to business life, encourage them to invoke their creativity and to add value to the field they are educated in.

The applications for the competition that directs the students to find alternative areas for use of concrete and create applicable projects for these areas has can be made between December 1st, 2009 and January 1st, 2010.

Project submission deadline of the competition open to undergraduate and graduate students of Construction Engineering and Architecture Departments is February 1, 2010.

The group to become first will receive a 4.000 TL worth Teknosa gift certificate whereas the second group will receive 2.000 TL worth gift certificate and the 3rd group will receive a 1.000 TL worth gift certificate. First group will also obtain the right to be interns in Akçansa. Also, Akçansa will donate a tree to TEMA for every student that participates the Betonic Ideas Project Competition and associate the youngsters in its projects for a greener world.

The awards of those who qualified for the first three in the competition will be given with an award ceremony that will be held in Sabancı Center on February 16th.

General Manager Gürdal: We build a bridge between us and youngsters!

Akçansa General Manager Hakan Gürdal said these abut the project competition: “To equip our students with information required by modern science and prepare them to the business life as successful engineer and architect candidates are among our priority goals. We follow the studies of our universities on this subject with a great interest and appreciation. We decided to organize Betonic Ideas Project in order to contribute to the studies in this direction. We desire to direct the students that participate the project competition under the subject, ‘Alternative Areas of Use of Concrete’ to find alternative areas for use of concrete and create applicable projects for these areas. We therefore aim to introduce original ideas to the industry, provide for increasing the use of concrete and cement and make the dreams of youngsters that we will build a strong bridge with as the leader cement producer of Turkey come true.”

Conditions for participating the Betonic Ideas Project Competition

The most important condition of the competition addressing the undergraduate and graduate students of Construction Engineering and Architecture Departments is to submit a creative project that is not constructed or used for another competition before. Those who want to apply must form groups of minimum 2, maximum 4 students. Participants are required to prepare a neat design that supplies for the originality of the idea, benefits it will create (cost, ease of use etc.), functionality, applicability and contribution to environment measures.
