1000 students were trained on awareness in 2 weeks with My Neighbourhood Project

Continuing its social responsibility activities around the concept of ‘being a good neighbour’, Akçansa completed the first leg of the ‘My Neighbourhood’ project, which entered its 6th year this year, in Çanakkale in cooperation with TOÇEV (Tuvana Foundation for the Education of Children Willing to Read) and Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of National Education.

Between 23 May – 6 June, 1000 students aged 6-14 in primary and secondary schools in Ezine were trained on ‘Waste and Recycling’ and ‘Peer Bullying Based on Gender Inequality’.

Starting the My Neighbourhood project in Çanakkale Ezine district this year, Akçansa provided awareness trainings in schools in cooperation with TOÇEV and Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of National Education.

The target is a total of 15 thousand students in 4 provinces

In the trainings provided to 1000 students aged 6-14 by TOÇEV’s specialised psychologists, the topics of ‘Waste and Recycling’ and ‘Peer Bullying Based on Gender Inequality’ were covered and the questions of the students were answered.

Within the scope of the project, which aims to increase the consciousness of children of their communication with themselves and their environment and of their friendship relations, it is aimed to reach 15 thousand students through trainings to be held in Çanakkale, Istanbul, Samsun and Izmir.

The contents of training consisted of games and psychodrama exercises with evaluations that increased students’ awareness of environmental sensitivity and gave children insight into which positive behaviours in peer relationships would be considered beneficial and which behaviours would be considered bullying. Within the scope of the project, educator psychologists worked with primary and secondary school students in groups of 10 students each.

“Celebrating its 6th anniversary, ‘My Neighbourhood’ is an inspiring project”

Stating that they endeavour to work with the principle of providing sustainable support to human and social life in a wide range of areas from education to sports and culture and arts, Akçansa General Manager M. Zeki Kanadıkırık expressed his happiness for successfully completing the My Neighbourhood project in Çanakkale. Kanadıkırık; “In the social dimension of our 2030 Sustainability Goals, we have important targets for both our employees and the society we are a part of. We are excited to produce social responsibility projects to be a good neighbour. My Neighbourhood stands out as an inspiring project with the awareness training it provides to our children. With the project, we want to reach a total of 15 thousand students in 4 provinces. As a company that is always proud of being from Çanakkale, our efforts in this direction will continue to increase.”

Ebru Uygun, TOÇEV Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “As TOÇEV, we set out 28 years ago with the motto “Studying is the Right of Every Child”. Our aim is to ensure that children receive education under equal conditions and have equal rights. For 28 years, we have been endeavouring to serve our children by producing projects in different fields.  In our journey with Akçansa, which started in 2015, we reached our children with many different themes. This year, we are starting our project with Akçansa in Çanakkale with the motto “Being a good neighbour”. It is very important for us to make these trainings, which we carry out in our education truck, practical and fun for our children. Together with our specialised psychologist, we want to ensure that children reach the necessary levels of cognition. Our aim in our project is to increase the sensitivity of primary and secondary school students towards themselves, their environment and friendship relations and to support their psycho-social development positively”.
