Becoming the largest cement producer of Turkey with the merger of Akçimento (established in 1967) and Çanakkale Çimento (established in 1974) in 1996, Akçansa is a joint venture of Hacı Ömer Sabancı Holding A.Ş. and Heidelberg Cement Mediterranean Basin Holdings, S.L. 79,4% of company’s shares are owned equally by Hacı Ömer Sabancı Holding and HeidelbergCement Mediterranean Basin Holdings, S.L., and the remaining 20,57% of the shares are public.
Akçansa operates in the Marmara, Aegean, and Black Sea regions for cement and ready-mixed concrete production, and also has three cement plants in Istanbul, Çanakkale, and Samsun, and three cement terminals in Ambarlı, Aliağa, and Yalova. Akçansa merged with its subsidiary Betonsa in 1998 and as a result of this merger, the company serves with its “Betonsa” brand with approximately 40 ready-mixed concrete plants in the Marmara and Aegean Regions. The company merged with another subsidiary, Agregasa Agrega San. ve Tic. A.Ş., in 2002 and produces aggregate under the brand of “Agregasa” at three plants established in Istanbul. Akçansa aims to be “the highest quality in production and service” in order to meet the demands of both its domestic and international customers and to compete beyond the price issues in this industry where the differences are hardly perceived.
