Projects of university students that will shape the future of construction sector were awarded

The award ceremony for the Concrete Ideas Project Competition, held by Turkey's leader construction materials company Akçansa with the motto "We Need a Digital Idea There" (Şuraya Bi’ Dijital Fikir Lazım) this year, was held at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum The Seed Emirgan.

More than 10 thousand students from different universities in Turkey applied to the Concrete Ideas Project Competition to date. At the 10th Concrete Ideas Project Competition, Istanbul Technical University ranked first, while Karabük University and Istanbul Technical University shared the second place. Özyeğin University ranked third in the competition.

Sabancı Holding CEO Mehmet Göçmen, Sabancı Holding Human Resources Group President Hakan Timur, Sabancı Holding Cement Group President Dr. Tamer Saka and Akçansa General Manager Umut Zenar, as well as jury members of the Concrete Ideas Project Competition, Akçansa employees, business partners and finalist students attended to the ceremony.

As a result of the jury evaluation, students from the Istanbul Technical University ranked first in the 10th Concrete Ideas Project Competition. The second place was shared by Karabük University and Istanbul Technical University, while Özyeğin University ranked third.

Göçmen: “We attach a great importance to our youth and to raising them as individuals equipped with the competencies of 21st century”

Sabancı Holding Human Resources Group President Hakan Timur underlined that they attach great importance to young talents and added: “As Sabancı Holding, we believe that one of our most valuable assets is our human resources. While renewing, developing and transforming ourselves in line with the requirements of the era, we always see our human resources as a part of this transformation and act accordingly. Investing in our youth, who will be the future leaders, is one of our most important responsibilities. While diversifying our business models to keep pace with the era, we focus on recruiting talents appropriate to the new era and our business models and improving the competencies of our existing employees.”

Saka: “Projects of the youth offer a new perspective for the future of our sector”

In his speech, Sabancı Holding Cement Group President Dr. Tamer Saka said, “We now see the reflections of the digital transformation in the world in our daily lives and in the way we do business. For us, each idea is a separate value. It is also a new perspective for the future of our industry. We are proud of all our young friends and the projects they submitted.” Saka underlined that they have received more than 10 thousand applications to the Concrete Ideas Project Competition, which started with applications of 16 universities and 64 students in 2010, and that 67% of the applications this year were from the universities in Anatolia. Saka said, “We always support the creative and innovative ideas of young people who are the foundation of our future, exchange ideas with them, and contribute to their development by providing various trainings they need. I am fully convinced that valuable projects presenting the perspectives of our young friends in the Concrete Ideas Project Competition will contribute to the sustainable future of our business world.”
