SEMINAR
ON NEW STANDARDS AND GENERAL INFORMATION
ON CEMENT AND
CONCRETE
Training was given to our bagged cement dealers, bulk cement and concrete customers in the seminars organized in Istanbul, Çanakkale and Izmir. General information on production and types of cement, cement terminology, our products, storing of cement were given, a detailed presentation on new standards and particularly EN 197-1 was made, and standards’ provisions on “statistical process control” and Akçansa’s standing regarding these issues were conveyed to more than 100 participants. Additionally, an in-depth presentation on EN 206, the new concrete standard was made, and examples on the new aspects and the requirements of the subject standard were conveyed. Head of Building Materials Department of Istanbul Technical University Civil Engineering Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali TAŞDEMİR has summarized the issue and made a presentation on “Durability of concrete”.
In addition to the training programs held in Istanbul, Çanakkale and Izmir, and
presentations given on the new “Highway Transport Regulation”, our Çanakkale
finance department has presented information on “The New Turkish Lira” and “Direct
Loan System”. Information exchange on various subjects concerning cement and
concrete has been made as well in all seminars.
SEMINAR ON STEEL FIBER CONCRETES AND INDUSTRIAL FLOOR APPLICATIONS
 A seminar on “Steel Fiber Concretes and Industrial Floor Applications” was organized on 25 August 2004, at Betonsa’s Orhanlı Facility for our Gebze region customers. Our customers currently engaged in construction business in the region, investors planning to construct floor concretes in future and contracting companies that operate in the region were invited to the seminar. During the seminar, where 9-10 customer representatives participated, Betonsa gave a brief description of its special concrete portfolio and Beksa provided detailed information on steel fiber concretes and industrial floor applications with examples from Turkey and overseas.
At the “Steel Fiber Concretes and Industrial Floor Applications” seminar, some steel fiber concrete was cast at a spot that was prepared earlier within Orhanlı Facility, and the participants were provided applied information on the particulars of preparation and casting of steel fiber concrete and the points to watch out
.
AKÇANSA’S SUPPORT FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS
Being an industrial establishment very close to Istanbul, our
Büyükçekmece Plant keeps on being the focus of attention of
many educational institutions. A wide range of educational
institutions, from primary schools located in the neighborhood,
to universities, and even academics are enthusiastic to visit
and examine our Büyükçekmece Plant. Accordingly, various educational
institutions have paid visits to our plant this year as well.
The visit itinerary of the students from the Department of
Environment of Kültür University and Civil Engineering Faculty
of Istanbul Technical University was planned this year at Bahçeşehir
Concrete Facilities, the Technology Center and Büyükçekmece
Plant. A group consisting of 60 students was provided information
on cement and concrete during these visits. A group of children
from the Private Mimarsinan School, one of the primary schools
in our community also visited our plant and received information
on cement production and had the opportunity to observe implementations,
particularly on Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety
issues.
